The Legacy of Manuel de Boaventura

Manuel Joaquim de Boaventura (1885-1973), a prominent figure in Portuguese literature, chose this house in Susão, Palmeira de Faro, as his refuge and source of inspiration. It was from 1906, after his marriage, that he settled here, dedicating himself to writing. Dozens of titles and extensive collaborations in national newspapers and magazines were born within these walls, turning the residence into a true sanctuary of his literary creation.

This historic site also hosted significant moments, such as the visit of the illustrious novelist Ferreira de Castro in 1961, underscoring the house's importance in the cultural and literary circuit of the time.

A Centre for Memory and Culture

The Old House of Writer Manuel de Boaventura is currently being prepared to become a publicly accessible space, dedicated to the memory and study of the author's work. This recovery and adaptation project aims to transform the property into a House Museum, a cultural hub for the community and for visitors interested in Manuel de Boaventura's life and artistic journey.

One of the most valuable aspects of this future centre is the vast personal collection and private library of the writer, generously donated by the family. This collection includes original manuscripts, correspondence, drawings, photographs, and various other documents that provide a unique insight into his daily life, his creative process, and his network of literary and intellectual contacts.
