Located in the historic center of Vila Nova da Baronia, in the municipality of Alvito, this chapel is situated between Rua 5 de Outubro, Rua Nossa Senhora da Conceição, and Rua 25 de Abril.
The building has a longitudinal plan with a nave, chancel, sacristy, and a side chapel. The facade is simple but with decorative elements such as pyramidal pinnacles and a bell tower. The portal is rectangularly molded and topped by a niche with tiles.
The interior of the chapel is decorated with 16th and 17th-century tiles that cover the walls and the altar. The tiles on the altar depict flowers, birds, and other fauna elements. The nave is covered by a barrel vault.
The chapel was built around 1655, founded by Sebastião Lopes Toscano, who ordered it to be built with the desire that a mass be celebrated daily for his soul. In 1673, the chapel was bequeathed to Sebastião's nephew, Manuel Álvares Toscano.
In the 18th century, the tiles were installed inside the chapel, including the fresco painting in the sacristy, which represents the sign of the Redeemer.
In 1997, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição was classified as a Property of Public Interest, recognizing its historical and cultural value.
The exterior of the chapel is sober, but the interior stands out for the beauty of the tiles and the sense of tranquility it transmits to visitors.
