A Significant History

Although the presence of a tower on the site may have older roots, the current Clock Tower, along with its mechanism, dates back to a significant renovation in 1890. This intervention gave it its current appearance, characterized by a revivalist style that integrates elements evoking medieval architecture, such as the battlements at its top and the arched openings that give it a distinct touch.

The construction presents a quadrangular plan and rises with a sobriety that imposes itself on the surrounding dwellings, serving as a point of reference and a testament to the passage of time in the community.

The Mechanism and the Voice of Time

One of the most notable aspects of the tower is its clock, which is distinguished by being one of the few in Portugal that still operates through a system of pendulums and by winding. At its top, accessible by a spiral staircase, there is a guard with a brick grille and corner ornaments, culminating in a small turret or lantern that houses the bell.
