The Joaquim Vaz Garden Bed is located on Rua da Liberdade, in Trindade, a peaceful village in the municipality of Beja. It is installed next to the sidewalk, at a small junction of a moderately trafficked urban road.
This green element is bordered by cement paving and positioned near a pedestrian crossing, making it a discreet pause point in the street's design.
Inside the garden bed, a mature palm tree stands out, accompanied by agaves, flowering shrubs, and herbaceous elements that evoke the typical Mediterranean flora of the region.
Some poetic, already senescent olive trees frame the space, providing a contrast between exotic species and the traditional ones of Alentejo.
A convex traffic mirror, mounted on a metal pole, emerges as a practical solution to improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians in that narrow stretch.
This same mirror also offers a curious photographic point, reflecting the surrounding streets and buildings from a unique angle.
Beyond the low walls and the flat Alentejo plain, the olive grove that characterizes the rural landscape around Trindade is visible.
The open horizon and the gentle undulation of the terrain provide a calm setting, where the garden bed functions as a micro-vegetal refuge next to the urban fabric.
