Quinta de São Vicente is located in the village of Ferreira do Alentejo, in Portugal.
It is a farm that stands out for its olive oil production, occupying an area of approximately 800 hectares, of which 700 are olive groves.
The estate has an imposing manor house in the Romantic style, with terraces, arcades, columns and beautiful tile panels.
In addition to the house, the estate has a charming garden, fed by gravity-operated water channels.
Built in the 18th century by the Passanha family, originally from Italy and established in the Alentejo in the 16th century, Quinta de São Vicente underwent major modifications in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Over time, the estate also stood out for its cheese production, as mentioned in the 1927 Guia de Portugal.
In the 1940s, the estate was involved in the Wheat Campaign, a program of the Estado Novo to develop cereal production in the Alentejo.
After the April 25, 1974 Revolution, the estate owners took refuge abroad and the property was occupied. The complex was subsequently abandoned and rehabilitated in 2003 by João Filipe Passanha, administrator of the company Taifas.
In 2010, the company Taifas, responsible for the estate's operation, received the award for the world's best ripe fruity olive oil.
In 2011, it was reported that the estate would be bisected by the planning of a road, which would result in the felling of olive trees and the interruption of access to the olive press, in addition to damaging the image of the estate and the olive oil brand.
In 2018, a visit to Quinta de São Vicente was organized as part of the Terras sem Sombra Festival, providing an opportunity to get to know this beautiful place.
