Praia dos Picos is situated in the parish of Longueira/Almograve, in the municipality of Odemira, along a quiet and wild stretch of coastline. It is nestled between rocky cliffs that provide privacy and frame the sandy beach.
The surroundings are characterized by rustic vegetation typical of the Alentejo coast, with patches of cork oak and kermes oak extending close to the sandy shore.
The sandy beach stands out for its formations of weathered limestone, where small coves and natural pools open up. The rocks create color contrasts between the light tone of the stones and the deep blue of the sea.
It is possible to observe the constant action of the waves, which shape the cliffs and establish a dynamic setting, ideal for those who appreciate an untouched coastal landscape.
To reach the beach, you walk along a sandy trail for about ten minutes, following the dunes. This is followed by a short descent of medium difficulty, which requires attention to the slope and the uneven ground.
It is recommended to wear footwear with good grip, such as trainers, as the terrain alternates between loose sand and rocky areas that can be slippery.
When the tide rises, the sandy area is reduced, and the water covers a large part of the beach, highlighting the direct contact with the rocks. Conversely, at low tide, stone banks are revealed, inviting exploration and wading.
This phenomenon means that each visit presents a distinct scenery, from extensive sandbanks to concentrations of pebbles and small tide pools, perfect for observing marine life.
