Praia do Malhão (Centro) is located on the coastal strip of Vila Nova de Milfontes, part of the municipality of Odemira. This beach is situated within the limits of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, benefiting from a preserved natural setting.
Situated on a wide stretch of the Atlantic coastline, its location is somewhat isolated, a short distance from the more urbanized area of Vila Nova de Milfontes, which contributes to its wilder and untouched environment.
One of the most notable aspects of Praia do Malhão (Centro) is its considerably sized sandy area. The vastness of the sand strip extends for a long distance, providing ample space for visitors.
This ample space allows visitors to find more secluded areas and enjoy the beach with a sense of freedom and without the typical concentration of smaller sandy areas, making it suitable for long walks along the sea or moments of greater tranquility.
The scenic beauty of Praia do Malhão (Centro) is strongly influenced by its natural setting. To the east, the beach is accompanied by an extensive and well-preserved dune system, locally known as Dunas do Malhão, which adds a striking and sensitive landscape element.
At its southern limit, the sandy area meets imposing rock formations, popularly known as Galés. These rocks, sculpted by the force of the sea, delimit the beach and offer points of visual interest, contrasting with the softness of the sand and the dynamism of the waves.
The waters that bathe Praia do Malhão (Centro) are those of the Atlantic Ocean, and as is common in this part of the Vicentine Coast, they can present considerable swell. This fact gives the sea a sometimes vigorous and dynamic character.
The strength and movement of the waves are a constant element of the beach's sound and visual landscape, reflecting the wilder and more exposed nature of this section of the Alentejo coast.
