Praia do Farol is located at the mouth of the Mira River, occupying its north bank. It is close to the town of Vila Nova de Milfontes and is part of the protected area of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. This particular location gives it a front facing the river and another facing the Atlantic Ocean.
At the top of the cliff that borders the beach there is an elevated point, associated with the lighthouse, known as Miradouro do Farol (Lighthouse Viewpoint). This spot offers a wide perspective on the surrounding landscape, including the river mouth and the coastline.
This beach has a sandy area of considerable extension, although its depth varies. Its particularity of having bathing areas in both river water and sea water distinguishes it.
