Praia do Burdo is located north of Vila Nova de Milfontes, integrated into the Praia do Malhão area. It is situated within the limits of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, a protected landscape area.
Access to this beach is a bit more challenging due to its remote character and the fact that it is flanked by cliffs. Generally, it involves walking a stretch or using a vehicle more suitable for dirt roads, which contributes to its isolated atmosphere.
Praia do Burdo's sandy area is of modest size and is distinguished by not being composed solely of sand, but also by a noticeable presence of pebbles and stones. In the center of the beach, a singular rock formation stands out, marking the landscape.
In the surf zone, there are numerous submerged rocks. These rocks cause the sea to break intensely, creating a lot of foam and giving a dynamic appearance to the coastline in this area.
Praia do Burdo offers close contact with the wild nature of the Vicentine Coast. It is possible to observe the dune system that develops along the sandy area, as well as the imposing cliffs that frame the beach.
These cliffs serve as nesting sites for seabirds and, in particular, are part of one of the largest nesting areas for white storks in Europe, making them possible to spot. With the outgoing tide, pools form in the rocky areas, where some marine life can be observed.
One of the most striking features of Praia do Burdo is its tranquility. The less direct access deters crowds, making it a refuge for those seeking peace and quiet by the sea.
This environment invites relaxing walks along the coast, contemplation of the natural landscape, and moments of rest away from the hustle and bustle. It is an ideal place to appreciate the raw beauty of the Alentejo coastline.
