Located on the Alentejo coast, Praia Grande is situated in the parish of Longueira/Almograve, in the municipality of Odemira. It is near the village of Almograve. It is part of the protected area of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, which highlights its natural and preserved environment. Atop the cliffs that border the beach, there are dune fields. The main access to the sandy area involves descending the cliff via stairways.
Praia Grande's sandy area is known for its size, presenting itself as a wide and extensive space. Its length invites long walks along the seashore and offers ample space even on busier days. The section of the sandy area located further south has the specific designation of Meia Praia.
The landscape of Praia Grande is marked by the imposing cliffs that flank the sandy area, giving it a wild and scenic character. These rock formations define the natural limits of the beach, with the prominent features of Ponta dos Azulejos to the north and Ponta da Ilha to the south. In the center, a unique rock formation emerges from the sand and water: ``Rocha Furada``, a visual landmark that draws attention. The presence of submerged rocks near the waterline is common and can influence the agitation of the waters in the bathing area.
