This beach is situated on the south bank of the Mira River estuary, offering panoramic views of the opposite bank. From here, it is possible to see part of the urban area of Vila Nova de Milfontes, as well as the beaches located on the north side of the river, such as Praia da Franquia and Praia do Farol.
Praia de Rio boasts a history of distinction, having been elected the “Best River Beach” in the “7 Maravilhas Praias de Portugal” contest in 2012. This recognition highlights the unique characteristics of this location as a river bathing area.
Due to its location at the mouth, where the river meets the ocean, the water at Praia de Rio features a combination of influences, with a notable salinity. Natural conditions and water quality are ensured, with this location being distinguished with the Blue Flag, which certifies environmental quality and safety standards.
