Situated on the Alentejo coast, next to the village of Almograve, this cove opens into a nook between sedimentary rock escarpments. It is just a few meters from the dunes bordering the settlement, in a quieter stretch of the Vicentina Coast. The final approach is via a staircase carved into the cliff face, offering views over the sandy beach and the sea.
At low tide, a small natural pool forms, reflecting the sky and allowing observation of the water's greenish hues. The surroundings maintain a wild character, with low-lying vegetation contrasting with the intense blue of the ocean.
The beach combines areas of fine sand with sections dotted with dark pebbles and protruding rocks. These outcrops create small caves and passages that invite exploration, especially in calmer waters. Records indicate diverse marine fauna, from small crustaceans to sea urchins, so walking with caution is advisable.
The atmosphere is calm outside of peak hours. The cove's orientation protects it from the prevailing wind, making it suitable for those seeking a tranquil moment by the sea.
The neighboring rock formations reveal layers documenting millions of years of sedimentation. The reddish color of the cliff contrasts with the black tone of the pebbles. At dusk, the sun strikes obliquely, highlighting the textures and casting golden reflections on the water.
At low tide, access is gained to nooks near the cliff where small caves can be explored and shells of various shapes and colors can be observed. The ensemble offers opportunities to capture images of the sea framed by the rock, ideal for landscape photography enthusiasts.
The moderate slope towards the sandy beach allows for a progressive immersion. On some occasions, natural pools with calmer waters form, perfect for those traveling with children. Although the waves can be rougher, the larger swells dissipate near the rocks, creating small, safer bays.
It is possible to sunbathe on a towel or explore the rocky platforms, where direct contact with the stone invites a moment of rest to the sound of the waves.
