Cavaleiro Beach is located on the Alentejo coast, within the municipality of Odemira and the parish of São Teotónio. It is situated in an inlet north of the imposing Cape Sardão. Its natural setting falls within the boundaries of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, a highly valuable protected landscape area. Access to the beach is from the Cavaleiro urbanization.
This beach is distinguished by having a modest-sized sandy area. The sand strip is notably divided by a large rocky slab that extends along the beach. It is important to consider the tidal regime, as at high tide the available sand area becomes quite reduced, and may even be almost submerged.
The scenery of Cavaleiro Beach is shaped by its location in an inlet and the surrounding cliffs. To the west, the beach is limited by a notable, long, and narrow rocky projection, known locally as Ponta da Carraca. This geological formation, along with the intimacy of the inlet, gives the beach a unique atmosphere and appealing visual characteristics.
Although it is mostly known as Cavaleiro Beach, this sandy area is sometimes referred to as Praia da Foz do Cavaleiro or even Praia da Carraca, in allusion to the nearby rocky projection. Its reduced size and natural environment give it a more secluded and picturesque character compared to larger sandy areas. It is important to note that this is an unsupervised beach, so special attention is advised.
