Poça do Buraco Beach is located in the coastal area of Longueira/Almograve, in the municipality of Odemira. Set within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, this beach lies along the Atlantic coastline.
It is integrated into the locality of Almograve, benefiting from the characteristic natural surroundings of this area of the Alentejo Coast.
The ground at Poça do Buraco Beach is predominantly composed of rocks and pebbles, offering a unique texture underfoot. You will not find extensive golden sands here.
During low tide, a vast area of rocks becomes exposed, revealing interesting formations. To the north, the beach is delimited by a cliff whose silhouette marks the local landscape, and whose top hosts a considerable dune system.
The beach's name, "Poça do Buraco" (Hole's Pool), suggests the presence of rock formations that create small pools during low tide. This is a place where the ocean's rhythm is particularly visible.
The dynamics of the tides expose a significant area of rocks, which become an integral part of the landscape. Swimming conditions can be limited and vary considerably, so caution is advised when entering the water.
Poça do Buraco Beach offers an environment of tranquility, ideal for those seeking more direct contact with the wild nature of the coast. It is a less frequented spot, providing a sense of peace and isolation.
It is an excellent setting for walks along the coastline, observation of the maritime landscape and rock formations. Its atmosphere invites contemplation and appreciation of local biodiversity, being suitable for birdwatching and nature photography.
