Praia da Cruz is located in the coastal area of the municipality of Odemira, near the town of Vila Nova de Milfontes. It is situated within the protected coastal strip that constitutes the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, occupying a portion of this area's Atlantic frontage.
This beach is characterized by a stretch of sand that extends along the coast. However, it is important to know that the amount of visible sand available for enjoyment on the beach varies considerably with the tidal cycle. During high tide, a significant portion of the sandy area may be covered by ocean water.
The landscape of Praia da Cruz is defined, in part, by the presence of a cliff that flanks the sandy shore. This rocky formation does not reach a great height. At the base of the cliff, along the line where the sand meets the rocky foot, one can find a natural cordon composed of rolled pebbles, which follows the beach's profile.
One of the distinctive natural elements of Praia da Cruz is the abundance of dune systems. There are large dunes that shape the landscape, functioning as a natural barrier and shelter for the native vegetation, typical of this Alentejo coastal environment. These dunes contribute to the wild and preserved character of the location.
Due to its size and the presence of dune areas, Praia da Cruz tends to offer zones that allow for a greater sense of isolation and privacy. This natural environment attracts those seeking a more tranquil and secluded space by the sea.
