This small cove is located in the parish of Longueira/Almograve, in the municipality of Odemira, along the Alentejo coast. Hidden between rocky cliffs and patches of autochthonous vegetation, it is a few minutes' drive from the village of Longueira and on the way to the extensive beaches of Almograve.
Its proximity to the Riacho da Amoreira gives it a transitional environment between saltwater and freshwater, while the open ocean stretches to the west, offering a wide and ever-changing horizon.
The name of this beach comes from the rock formation that resembles the profile of a cargo ship, leaning against the steep cliff face. The dark volcanic rocks contrast with the ochre hue of the cliffs and the white of the foam when the waves break.
At low tide, small natural pools emerge where barnacles, sea urchins, and anemones can be observed, testifying to the marine life that adapts to the sea's variations. Around, dirt tracks allow for careful exploration of every nook and cranny.
The constant sound of the waves, combined with the wind blowing from the Atlantic, creates a sense of tranquil isolation. Without large-scale infrastructure, the beach retains a wild character, ideal for those seeking to contemplate the encounter between sea and rock.
In autumn and winter, the play of light and shadow on the granite formations becomes more dramatic, while in spring, the low-lying vegetation blooms with small colorful patches. It is worth bringing binoculars to observe coastal birds that often ride the currents along the cliffs.
