Urban Transformation

In the past, this site was a tangle of narrow passages and alleys, situated between the medieval wall and the lower-lying houses of the city. Its initial condition, characterized by degradation and being merely a collection of purposeless routes, justified a profound intervention.

The requalification of Vista Alegre Park had the primary objective of reintegrating this space into the urban fabric of Beja. The intervention returned to the city an area that had been underutilized, transforming it into a more fluid and pleasant meeting and transit point for residents and visitors.

Architectural Design

Its design is distinguished by a unified concrete structure, whose pigmentation mimics the color of the old wall, creating visual harmony with the surrounding heritage. This material and chromatic choice allowed the new structure to "fit" into the space, respecting pre-existing elements such as the wall itself and archaeological remains.

The project sought to simplify the functional structure of the site, maintaining the logic of existing routes but improving them. Through a play of ramps and stairs, new access points were defined, facilitating circulation and inviting the discovery of different perspectives of the park.

Environment and Functionality

Inside the park, different levels and platforms are observed, giving the space great versatility. These distinct platforms create inviting areas for rest and contemplation, allowing visitors to experience the place in diverse ways.

Vista Alegre Park is today a versatile and serene space, where formal simplicity invites a tranquil journey. Its contemporary architecture, which dialogues with local history, provides a unique environment for a pause in the discovery of the city of Beja.
