The Aljustrel Municipal Museum is located in the town, on Rua São João de Deus. This space occupies the building that, in other times, was the seat of the Town Hall.
This museum seeks to reveal the long human presence in the territory of Aljustrel, from the earliest times to the contemporary era. One of its main focuses is the region's deep connection to mining activity, showing how it shaped the lives of the populations throughout the centuries.
Among its collection are valuable testimonies of local history, with emphasis on archaeological and ethnographic pieces. Particularly notable are the famous Aljustrel Bronze Tablets, exceptional documents from the Roman period. The museum also holds the Estela da Carniceira, a funerary monument from the Bronze Age found in the region, and objects such as a ceramic pot from a Roman necropolis, which help to tell the story of those who inhabited this territory.
The museum's headquarters occupies a building with history in the town, which in the past served as the Town Hall. Interestingly, at the beginning of the 20th century, the idea of installing a museum core here had already been considered, an initiative that would come to fruition much later in this very space.
