The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the heart of Serpa, within its historic core. It is specifically situated in the Bairro de São Francisco (Saint Francis Quarter), an area that naturally integrates into the town's oldest urban fabric, offering a setting that reflects the traditional character of the Alentejo village. Its central position allows for easy discovery by those exploring the streets and alleys of this historic environment.
This space is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary art, housing a diverse collection that includes painting, serigraphy, sculpture, and photography, among other artistic expressions. The works displayed here belong to the Municipality of Serpa and feature both Portuguese and foreign artists of recognized value. The building, which underwent a significant intervention in 2019, now boasts renovated conditions, providing an environment conducive to artistic contemplation.
Beyond being an exhibition venue, the museum plays an active role in promoting knowledge about contemporary art, both nationally and internationally. Its programming is characterized by constant dynamism, including temporary exhibitions, both individual and collective. These initiatives, often complemented by other multidisciplinary actions, aim to engage the public and foster a closer connection with the current artistic landscape and with Serpa's local community itself.
