The Parish Church of Saint Margaret is located in the village of Peroguarda, part of the municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo. It is situated in Praça Francisco Gonçalves Pereira, a central and landmark point in the locality.
The church's roots date back to an early period in the history of the Peroguarda parish, which already existed in the 15th century. The church itself was already present before 1534, the year it received a visit from Cardinal D. Afonso, a fact that highlights its antiquity.
Over the centuries, the building underwent adaptations and transformations, but its initial construction seems to have taken place between the 15th and 16th centuries.
For those visiting the Parish Church, there are elements that bear witness to its long history. Among the oldest vestiges found on site are parts of a Chapel of the Rosary.
Also noteworthy is the baptismal font, a piece known to have been acquired around the time of Cardinal D. Afonso's visit in 1534, thus being one of its oldest elements with a known date that can be observed.
