The building's name is a tribute to the actor Camacho Costa.
Built in the 20th century, the Camacho Costa Cinema-Theatre has an interesting history of recovery and renovation. After a period of closure at the end of the century, it was reopened in September 2005, following renovation works. It was during this intervention that a fascinating layer of Odemira's past was revealed: archaeological remains were discovered that attest to human presence at the site for over two thousand years. Among the findings, materials from the Iron Age and the Roman era stand out, including a remarkable ditch excavated into the rock, dated between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE, which was part of an ancient defensive wall of the settlement. The collected artifacts, with fragments of amphorae, fine pottery, coins, and other objects, offer a valuable glimpse into the ancient communities that inhabited this very soil.
