Born in 1884 and passed away in 1965, he dedicated most of his life to the service of faith, notably as Bishop of the Diocese of Beja, a position he held between 1922 and 1965.

His trajectory was remarkable for its dedication and his active role in crucial moments. He became known as the "soldier-bishop" due to his participation as Chief Chaplain of the Military Chaplains of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps during World War I. Furthermore, he was the visionary founder of the Congregation of the Oblates of the Divine Heart, leaving a lasting legacy in the diocese and beyond its geographical borders.

Sculpture Characteristics

Inaugurated in 1974, this sculptural work is by António Duarte. Made of bronze, the statue depicts D. José do Patrocínio Dias in the fullness of his episcopal vestments, conveying an image of dignity, authority, and serenity.
