The dam is located near the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Represa, in the parish of Vila Ruiva, municipality of Cuba, district of Beja, Portugal.
The dam dates back to Roman times, representing a testament to Roman engineering in the region.
It is classified as a Property of Public Interest, recognizing its historical and cultural value. This classification was established by Decree No. 67/97, published in Diário da República No. 301, on December 31, 1997.
The dam has a visible structure of 65 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width and reaches a maximum height of 2 meters. It has 8 irregular buttresses spaced at the bottom of the dam.
