The Miner's House is located in Mina de São Domingos, a locality in the municipality of Mértola that has strong ties to mining. Situated in the heart of the old village, this place allows visitors to understand the environment and daily life that shaped the communities of the Mina, offering a direct immersion into the local history and landscape.
This space constitutes a recreation of a miner's family dwelling, as it would have existed between the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Its purpose is to show the physical reality and living conditions of the people who lived in Mina de São Domingos during the period of greatest mining activity. Through this representation, the Miner's House helps to illustrate the social and cultural context of a community forged by work in the mine.
Inside the Miner's House, visitors are invited to an experience that evokes the simplicity and limitations of daily family life. In a carefully reconstructed space of approximately 16 square meters, objects and symbolic elements are displayed that refer to the memories and challenges faced by these families. The environment invites reflection and allows those who explore it to imagine what it was like to live and organize life in such a small home, stimulating a deep understanding of the region's working-class past.
