Erected in Largo de São João, the church stands out in a walled atrium slightly elevated from street level.
Access to the space is via a staircase, set within an urban fabric of typical houses of the São João parish in Ovar.
The current building results from the adaptation of an old chapel, transformed into a parish church at the end of the 17th century.
Over time, important interventions were recorded, such as the elevation of the triumphal arch in 1924, which was taken from the original main altarpiece.
The temple articulates the nave, chancel, and sacristy in distinct volumes, all topped by pyramidal pinnacles at the angles.
The main façade, covered in geometric tiles, features a portal with entablature, two side windows, and a rhomboid oculus crowned by a clock.
Inside, the gilded wood main altarpiece, originating from the chapel of São Pedro, reveals twisted columns adorned with grapevines, birds, and cherubs.
Also noteworthy is the image of the Virgin and Child, dating from the 16th century, and the figure of Saint John the Baptist, both from the Coimbra workshop.
