Quinta do Seixal is located in the parish of Milheirós de Poiares, municipality of Santa Maria da Feira. It is situated in a semi-rural context, where small residential clusters and agricultural spaces intermingle, offering visitors a tranquil environment, far from the more intense urban pace.
In the immediate vicinity, a gentle undulation of similar terrains and properties can be seen, punctuated by small elevations and lines of trees that extend to the foothills of the neighboring hills. This setting enhances the quinta's landscape character and allows for the enjoyment of a calm atmosphere, even though it is just a few minutes from the region's main roads.
The name “Quinta do Seixal” dates back to the early 20th century, as part of the land is dominated by infertile pebbles, hence the designation that was officially consolidated in 1902. The property became part of the Moreira family's heritage in 1890, when the brothers Domingos and Joaquim Alves Moreira, returning from Brazil, acquired the old “Vila Angelina”.
The main building retains features of a “Brazilian House”, reflecting adaptations made over the years. Inside, the chapel dedicated to Santa Efigénia, patron saint against fires, stands out; its community use persists to this day, keeping alive the connection between the quinta and the local inhabitants.
The quinta's arboreal collection includes centennial specimens such as the two large horse-chestnut trees (Aesculus hippocastanum), several hybrid cedars (Cedrus sp.), and tulip trees (Liriodendron tulipifera). These trees not only give scale to the space but also play an important role in carbon retention and the conservation of paleoclimatic species, such as holly (Ilex aquifolium) and laurel (Laurus nobilis).
In one of the overhanging nooks, there is a Brazilian-inspired grotto, equipped with resting areas and ambient music featuring Tibetan gongs. This spot invites one to slow down, offering a serene pause in direct contact with the botanical diversity that characterizes the quinta.
