Praia da Duna Alta is located in the town of Praia da Vagueira, within the municipality of Vagos, on the Portuguese Atlantic coast. This coastal area, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, is part of an area with the same name. Although situated within an urbanization, the beach stands out for its peaceful environment, enhanced by its proximity to one of the southernmost arms of the Ria de Aveiro, which contributes to a unique natural landscape, marked by lush vegetation and greenery.
This beach is characterized by an extensive and wide sandy area. Its name, Praia da Duna Alta (High Dune Beach), comes from a prominent and elongated dune that runs along the coastline, giving it a very distinct visual identity. To the north, the sandy area is delimited by a breakwater. A notable aspect, especially for families with children, is the formation of a small island during low tide, which creates areas of calmer and shallow water, ideal for safe enjoyment of the sea.
Praia da Duna Alta offers a tranquil and serene environment, making it an ideal place for those seeking a moment of escape and immersion in nature, away from the hustle and bustle. The landscape is dominated by the dunes, which, in addition to shaping the scenery, provide wide views over the ocean and the coast. This natural setting invites leisurely strolls, allowing visitors to appreciate the tranquility of the space and the beauty of the coastal flora.
In addition to being a suitable space for relaxation and sunbathing, Praia da Duna Alta is renowned for its favorable conditions for surfing and other water sports. The surrounding dunes invite exploration through walks, allowing visitors to discover the most natural corners of the area. The beach is also notable for its accessibility, featuring adapted paths and infrastructures to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, including sanitary facilities. Bather safety is ensured by the presence of lifeguards during the bathing season, and its environmental quality is validated by the attribution of the Blue Flag.
