Morphology and Geological Interest

The Côto do Boi has a very peculiar and easily identifiable shape in the landscape. According to popular wisdom, its silhouette can resemble the back of a tailless ox, or for others, the tip of a bovine hoof, hence its name. This distinct relief was shaped by the continuous action of the Côto do Boi stream.

From a geological point of view, the Côto do Boi corresponds to a tergo (an elongated ridge) that marks the contact between different types of rocks. It is a place of interest for those who appreciate geology, as large andalusite crystals can be observed here, giving the area particular mineralogical value.

The Stream and the Waterfall

The beauty of Côto do Boi is enhanced by the presence of the homonymous stream, which plays a fundamental role in shaping this relief. In the wetter months, especially autumn and winter, the stream's waters form an impressive waterfall, with a notable flow that rushes down the slope.

The rugged nature of this section of the stream offers a setting that is valued by those who seek canyoning. Additionally, the slopes bordering the waterfall are appreciated by trail running enthusiasts, who find challenging routes here. Near the waterfall, next to the road, there is an observation point where it is possible to appreciate the force and natural beauty of the water, and sometimes, to follow sporting events that take advantage of this unique environment.
