The Caloura Bathing Area is located on the south coast of São Miguel Island, in the Azores, specifically in the parish of Ribeira Chã, municipality of Lagoa. This bathing area is harmoniously set in a uniquely beautiful cove, where the coastal landscape intertwines with a serene and traditional atmosphere.
Its unique location, near a small and picturesque fishing harbour, gives it a distinct atmosphere where human intervention organically adapts to the surrounding natural beauty.
Caloura features a small cove, providing an ideal spot for sea bathing in calm and clear waters. A highlight is a saltwater natural swimming pool, formed in the coastal rock, which offers a sheltered and serene space for swimming.
The transparent waters and their characteristic calmness create a pleasant environment for a relaxed contact with the ocean, set within a coastal backdrop of undeniable natural beauty.
The environmental quality of the Caloura Bathing Area has been consistently recognized. Annually, this area is awarded the Blue Flag, an international certification that attests to the excellent quality of its bathing water and the adoption of good environmental management practices.
In addition to this distinction, the Caloura Bathing Area has been awarded the "Gold Quality" award by Quercus, National Association for Nature Conservation. This prize highlights the maintenance of high water quality standards over multiple years, without any recorded impediments to bathing.
