This windmill is located in the area of Quinta dos Canaviais, in the locality of São Pedro, belonging to the municipality of Velas, on the island of São Jorge.

It is situated at an altitude ranging from 60 to 70 meters above sea level.

Structure Details

The main structure of the windmill is built with cement blocks and stone, keeping these materials visible on the body.

The roof, known as the cap, is made with a wooden replica and is blue in color. The window elements, including frames and glass, are also made of blue-painted wood.

Origin and Function

This windmill is a more recent construction, not corresponding to a historical and operational wind turbine. Unlike old windmills, this example was never used for grinding cereals.

Its construction and form diverge from the usual patterns of traditional grinding windmills, as observed in studies conducted on the local heritage.
