Pico dos Loiros is located in the parish of Quatro Ribeiras, municipality of Praia da Vitória, on the northwest flank of Terceira Island, in the Azores. It rises to an altitude of approximately 259 meters, at an intermediate point between agricultural areas and the slope descending towards the sea.
In the vicinity, Pico da Servidão and the Maciço do Pico Alto stand out, integrating into a set of volcanic elevations that shape the profile of the coastline. The surroundings combine pastures, patches of eucalyptus, and rugged coastal cliffs.
Formed by ancient lava emissions, this geological feature reflects phases of explosive and effusive activity typical of Terceiran volcanism. Lava flows accommodated themselves towards the sea, contributing to the creation of steep cliffs along the northwest coast.
Integrated into the same system that gives rise to Pico Alto, Pico dos Loiros shares pyroclastic materials and basaltic rocks that attest to the complexity of the island's volcanic evolution. The soil composition reinforces the presence of clays rich in ferruginous minerals.
From the summit, one can admire a wide panorama of the Atlantic Ocean, the indented bays, and the network of agricultural terraces stretching across the hillside. On clear days, the horizon line is sharply defined, offering perspectives of multiple shades of green and blue.
The site invites observation of coastal dynamics and atmospheric changes, such as morning fogs and sunset contrasts. Pay special attention to the photographic framing, as the combination of relief, scattered vegetation, and the sea makes this spot a point of interest for those who appreciate natural scenery.
