Praia do Pópulo is located in the Rosto do Cão area, integrated into the locality of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel. Its proximity to the capital city makes it an easily accessible place for those exploring the region. Natural Characteristics:

This beach is characterized by its dark sand of volcanic origin, a common feature in Azorean landscapes, which contrasts with the verdant vegetation surrounding it. Although it is smaller in size, which also earned it the designation "Praia Pequena" (Small Beach), it offers an inviting space to enjoy the ocean. The quality of its waters and environment is frequently recognized.

Its Historical Origin:

The history of Praia do Pópulo dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, when the adjacent lands were private property and predominantly dedicated to vine cultivation. Access to the sandy area was, at the time, restricted to the owners. It was in the 20th century that a significant transformation occurred: with the construction of a new road in the 1950s, which crossed the old vineyards, the sandy area was finally opened to public use. This development was crucial for Praia do Pópulo to become the popular bathing area it is today for the city of Ponta Delgada.
