Porto Pim Beach is located in the city of Horta, on the island of Faial, in the Azores. It is situated in a sheltered bay, a natural setting that stands out for the presence of the volcanic elevations of Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado, which frame the sandy shore and its waters. Its proximity to the urban center of Horta makes it easily accessible, while still maintaining an atmosphere of serenity.

Natural Scenery

This beach is distinguished by its fine and soft sand, and by its generally calm waters, with little swell, which creates an inviting environment for bathing activities. The bay of Porto Pim features, to the southeast, a set of gray dunes, a natural habitat with particular ecological value, classified by the Natura 2000 Network. The area surrounding the beach is integrated into the Protected Landscape Area of Monte da Guia, which is part of the Faial Natural Park, recognized for its natural heritage.

Historical Legacy

Porto Pim possesses a rich historical heritage, being one of the most significant locations in Faial. It was in this bay that the first settlers settled in the 15th century, marking the beginning of the island's colonization. Over the centuries, its strategic importance grew, serving as a port for ships from various origins. In the 19th century, the bay became a crucial center for Azorean whaling activity. Later, in the early 20th century, it played a crucial role in transatlantic communications, with the mooring of submarine cables connecting Europe to the United States of America.

Recognized Quality

Considered the most sought-after beach on the island of Faial, Porto Pim offers a sandy area of approximately 350 meters. Its natural conditions, with calm waters and mild summer temperatures (reaching an average of 22ºC), are conducive to moments of leisure and rest. The quality of this bathing area is attested by distinctions such as the Blue Flag and the recognition of "Golden Quality Beach" by Quercus, which underline the high standards of cleanliness, safety, and hygiene.
