Praia da Amora is located in Ponta Garça, a locality belonging to the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, on the Azorean island of São Miguel. It is nestled at the base of a high cliff, offering a natural and isolated setting, far from the island's more bustling urban environment.

Its position grants it a unique surrounding, where the volcanic nature of São Miguel is majestically revealed, with views of the vast Atlantic Ocean.

Natural and Geological Aspects

This beach is distinguished by its composition, divided into three distinct stretches: one of fine sand, about 450 meters long, complemented by two more rocky areas. One of these, approximately 200 meters long, is sometimes referred to as Praia da Ribeira da Amora, and another, 80 meters long, known as das Areias, which occasionally features small sandy portions. These areas are separated by natural rock formations.

The access path to the beach is an experience in itself, flanked by rock strata that document the different volcanic eruptions which shaped this part of the island. It is possible to observe layers of pumice, bagacina (scoria), and basaltic rock, with variations in shade ranging from dark to reddish or zinc. Along this path, the typical flora of the laurisilva forests, characteristic of Macaronesia, accompanies the visitor.

Praia da Amora is a refuge for those seeking serenity and close contact with nature. Its tranquil and isolated atmosphere is ideal for moments of contemplation and rest, away from the hustle and bustle. The dark sand, composed of volcanic sands and pebbles, is characteristic of Azorean beaches.

Along the cliff that frames the beach, one can find small shelters carved into the rock. These shelters traditionally served as resting places for fishermen and to store their fishing gear, revealing a link to local history and the community's ancient fishing practices.
