The Bandstand is located in Praia do Almoxarife, a tranquil area in the locality of Praia, within the municipality of Horta. It is integrated into a public area, whether a square or a landscaped space, offering a central and easily accessible reference point for those exploring the surroundings. Its presence in the public space contributes to the inviting atmosphere of this area, which benefits from its proximity to the coast and the views that can be enjoyed nearby.
This bandstand features traditional architecture and a meticulous design. Its structure is hexagonal, giving it a balanced and visually pleasing shape. Notable are the small statues of female figures that adorn its sides, adding a remarkable artistic touch. On one of these figures, it is possible to observe the engraving of the date 1883, which marks the year of its foundation and highlights its antiquity.
Access to the stage is elevated from ground level and is made via a few steps leading to a small corridor. The predominant colours follow the tradition of these elements: a structure in vibrant red tones, complemented by white support elements, creating a classic and distinct contrast.
Since its origin, the Bandstand was conceived as an open-air stage, intended to host musical performances and cultural events. Throughout the years, it served as a venue for performances by philharmonic bands and other groups, perpetuating the tradition of bringing music and culture to public spaces.
Currently, the Praia do Almoxarife Bandstand maintains its symbolic value as a meeting and leisure point. It is a place that invites pause and contemplation, providing visitors with a serene environment to appreciate the tranquility of the area and the beauty of its construction.
