Ponta do Boqueirão is located in the village of Prainha, in the municipality of São Roque do Pico, within the area known as Prainha de Baixo. This particular point on the island is situated directly on the coastline, a few meters from the sea, on a pebble area. Its position offers unusual proximity to the ocean.
At this location, it is possible to observe the remains of an old windmill, once a vital element in the Azorean landscape. It is a wooden rotary windmill, characteristic of the Faial type, which once stood to harness the power of the wind. Although currently in ruins, the stone masonry pedestal and the two millstones, the essential stones for grinding, which withstand the passage of time, can still be distinguished.
The windmill's location at Ponta do Boqueirão, on the rocky coast, creates a distinct and peaceful setting. Its immediate proximity to the ocean allows one to hear the constant sound of waves breaking on the pebbles, inviting the observation of the sea's natural force. This environment offers a space to contemplate the union between human structure and the natural landscape of Pico Island.
