The Urban Park is located in the parish of São Pedro, in the city of Ponta Delgada, in the municipality of the same name. Bordered by Caminho da Levada to the west and Avenida Natália Correia to the east, this park demarcates a vast green area within the urban context of the Azorean capital, serving as a reference point for its surroundings.

The Lung of the City

Inaugurated in 2009, the Urban Park is the largest green area under the responsibility of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada, extending over approximately twenty hectares. It is widely recognized as the green lung of the city, playing a fundamental role in promoting environmental sustainability. Its creation aims to provide a natural space that contributes to well-being and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

An Inspiring Landscape Design

The concept that shaped the Urban Park drew inspiration from the great movements of urban parks of the 19th century, with clear influences from English landscape schools of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its design is remarkably naturalistic, conceived to evoke a sense of timeless welcome and tranquility. Through carefully planned paths and nooks, the park invites moments of serenity and the rediscovery of inner peace in a harmonious environment.

Botanical Richness and Nature Trails

The park boasts significant botanical diversity, with dozens of species of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants embellishing its spaces. Among the arboreal species, specimens such as Ceiba speciosa, Cupressocyparis leylandii, Cinnamomum camphora, and various species of Quercus spp. stand out. Furthermore, a notable presence of endemic Azorean flora shrubs and an imposing Phytolacca dioica tree can be observed, enriching the natural heritage of the site. Two pedestrian circuits invite visitors to explore the entire expanse of the park, offering a privileged space for strolls in contact with nature and fresh air.
