The Azores Military Museum is located in Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, situated in the city's historic center, in the São José area. It occupies a prominent building near the port area, making it easily identifiable within the urban context.

A Building with History

The museum is housed in the Fort of São Brás, a historical monument classified as being of public interest. This military fortification was built in the second half of the 16th century and is one of the first examples in Portugal, and in Europe, of a complete bastioned structure, with 360-degree protection. It played a fundamental role in the defense of the population and the city throughout the centuries, continuously maintaining its military function since its construction. A visit to the museum is also an opportunity to learn about this important piece of Renaissance military architecture.

The museum is dedicated to preserving and disseminating the historical-military heritage of the Portuguese Army, with special attention to its history in the Azores.
