The Pelames Municipal Pools are situated in the coastal area of Povoação, integrated into the Pelames urbanization, next to the sea and nestled at the base of verdant cliffs. The surroundings combine the serenity of the ocean with the gentle profile of Azorean houses, creating a harmonious blend between saltwater and the urban fabric.

Access is gained from a paved promenade, which borders the sandy beach and extends to the containment walls of the pools, offering a continuous perspective of the bay and rock formations.

Aesthetics and Ambiance:

The space is distinguished by two saltwater tanks, arranged on different levels, forming a small infinity pool that appears to merge with the horizon. The simple concrete edges highlight the contrast with the deep blue of the Atlantic and the vegetation, imparting a modern and minimalist character.

The surrounding pavement features marine-inspired mosaic motifs, such as stylized fish, which complement the oceanic ambiance and invite moments of contemplation. Regular cleaning of the premises, as well as constant supervision, reinforces the feeling of comfort and safety.

Infrastructure and Amenities:

Next to the pools, outdoor showers and foot baths are available, suitable for rinsing off after a dip. Across the public road, there are changing rooms with lockers and sanitary facilities, providing basic support for users.

In addition to lifeguard supervision, the site benefits from protective barriers on the peripheral wall, acting as breakwaters in rougher sea conditions. This infrastructure preserves both the equipment and the integrity of those swimming.
