Grená Park is located in Furnas, a village in the municipality of Povoação, on the island of São Miguel. This space is deeply embedded in an exuberant natural environment, characteristic of the region, offering visitors an immersion in the Azorean landscape. Its location contributes to a sense of tranquility, being nestled among dense vegetation and the geological elements that mark the Furnas area.

From History to the Present

The history of Grená Park is remarkable, reflecting a journey of transformation. Originally, in the 1950s, the property was established by a former English consul. Over the years, it changed hands and even served as a lodging space until it was acquired by the State in 1987. A period of abandonment followed, where nature reclaimed its space, accumulating degradation. However, in 2018, the property was acquired by new owners, who undertook an ambitious recovery project. This effort resulted in the revitalization of the park, which reopened in 2019, renewed and ready to be rediscovered.

A Recovered Natural Haven

After years of neglect, Grená Park was meticulously cleaned and redeveloped. This work involved the removal of several tons of waste and careful control of invasive species, allowing native flora and the natural environment to thrive again. The park offers direct contact with nature, featuring dense tree cover, a watercourse that crosses the terrain and is punctuated by a picturesque bridge, and remnants of an old garden. The presence of the palacete, though unrestored, adds a layer of history and mystery to the environment. It is a place that invites contemplation and the enjoyment of the serenity that Azorean nature provides.
