Lagoa Rasa is located in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, Azores. This lagoon is integrated into the volcanic formation of the Sete Cidades Massif, one of the island's most emblematic natural sceneries. It is situated at a considerable altitude, close to 870 meters, and is part of a group of lagoons present in the Serra Devassa area. Its position offers a unique observation point, framed by a landscape shaped by volcanic activity.
Characterized by its shallow depth, Lagoa Rasa is surrounded by a natural environment of great value. Its banks are flanked by typical Macaronesian forests, which contribute to the biological diversity of the site. In addition to native flora, the lagoon's surroundings feature cryptomeria plantations, a forest species that has adapted well to the Azorean climate and forms a significant part of the green landscape of this area.
Visiting Lagoa Rasa provides an experience of tranquility and direct contact with nature. The site offers views that many consider to be of great visual impact, with the lagoon occupying a flat space between cones of volcanic origin. It is an inviting place for contemplation and wildlife observation. Here, it is possible to spot the grey wagtail, a bird characteristic of lacustrine environments, which complements the quietness and scenic beauty of the lagoon and its surroundings.
