Situated in the picturesque Feteira Grande, an area within the locality of Santana, in the municipality of Nordeste, on the Island of São Miguel, the Church of Santana stands with a striking presence. Its construction on an elevated point, visible from the surrounding houses, grants it a special distinction in the village's scenery. Its location at the top of a staircase further accentuates its prominence in Feteira's urban landscape.
This Catholic temple is distinguished by its considerable dimensions and the remarkable basalt stonework. The dark stone, typical of the region, was skillfully used to highlight important elements of the structure, such as the window outlines and the entrance portal, which display significant aesthetic care. The bell tower, which rises above the facade, is crowned by a clock, adding a touch of functionality and beauty to the architectural ensemble.
A detail that captures visitors' attention is found on the church's main facade. Above the last window, an inscription referring to its history can be observed: "S.S. ANNA 1869". This engraving not only evokes the temple's dedication to Santana, its patroness, but also marks a year of significant importance for its construction or remodelling, inviting reflection on its long existence and its role in the community.
