This fountain is classified as a property of public interest, which means it has significant historical and cultural value.
On site, you will find two traditional fountains. Between them, there is a small wall where local residents often fill trucks with water for agricultural and animal use.
The first fountain is made of stone and has two stone pillars and a stone roof, which gives it a rustic and traditional appearance.
The second fountain is more elaborate and charming. It is decorated with a coat of arms and has ornamental features that make it especially beautiful.
Both fountains provide drinking water, making them an important place to obtain fresh water.
The second fountain has a backrest decorated with a beautiful lace frieze, flowers and leaves, as well as the coat of arms of Portugal, which makes it a unique piece of public art.
The fountain was built by the Angra do Heroísmo City Council in 1824, specifically on August 24, to address the water shortage during certain times of the year.
Today, the site continues to be used by the local community to obtain water and is a great example of the region's history and culture.
