Its construction was due to the initiative of the then Father João Silveira de Carvalho, who wished to create this space of faith for the community. Since 1884, the hermitage has played a central role in the religious life of the village, serving as a point of reference and continuity for local faith and traditions.

The patron saint of this hermitage is Nossa Senhora do Livramento (Our Lady of Deliverance), a figure of great devotion for the faithful of the region, underscoring the community's deep connection to religiosity. Additionally, behind the building, there is an Império do Espírito Santo (Holy Spirit Shrine). This is a typical construction of great cultural significance in the Azores, which testifies to the rich tradition of the cult of the Holy Spirit, so deeply rooted in the identity of the islands.
