The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, also known as the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Estrela, is located on the island of São Miguel, in the town of Lagoa, in the Azores.
This chapel was built in 1694 by Father Salvador de Sousa, Vicar of the Main Church of Santa Cruz. It was built on the site of Bandeira, above Rosário da Lagoa, with the authorization of the Chapter.
The license for the foundation of the chapel was granted by the Chapter in 1693, and the altar was erected the following year. However, the blessing was only performed in 1711 by Father Manuel de Sousa Benevides, with the first mass celebrated by Father Salvador de Sousa.
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Cabo is known for its unique and interesting architectural facade. It was restored and enriched by Dr. Alberto Paula de Oliveira, making it one of the most impressive temples in São Miguel.
This chapel is very dear to the people of Lagoa and is frequently visited on March 19, in honor of Saint Joseph, whose image is venerated here.
Throughout its history, the chapel has had several owners, but it remains a place of great religious and historical importance in the region.
