The Bird Interpretation Centre is located in the area of Paul da Pedreira, an important coastal wetland in the locality of Cabo da Praia, belonging to the municipality of Praia da Vitória. Its location is strategic, as the centre is immersed in one of the natural environments it aims to interpret and value. The surroundings are marked by the presence of paul ecosystems, giving the space an authentic context directly linked to its main theme.
This space was designed to showcase the richness and diversity of the fauna and flora that characterize the wetlands of the municipality of Praia da Vitória. The Bird Interpretation Centre plays a fundamental role in raising awareness about the importance of conserving these unique ecosystems, particularly the species of birds, plants, fish, and insects that inhabit them. The work developed here is closely linked to environmental protection initiatives, such as the LIFE Coastal Wetland Restoration project, which contributed to the recognition of Praia da Vitória as a municipality with a highlight in the management of its Coastal Wetland Green Infrastructure.
Visitors can explore exhibitions that illustrate local biodiversity in an engaging and informative way. Among the exhibitions that have been presented, the exhibition “Ink Birds” stands out, which uses the pointillism technique to represent various bird species, offering an artistic perspective on birdwatching. Another relevant exhibition, “Bio.Diver.Cidade”, allows for a deeper understanding of the variety of species that can be found in the region's paul sites, highlighting the biological richness of this island territory.
