Erected in the village of Cedros, in the municipality of Horta, this windmill is located on a hill at an approximate altitude of 100–110 meters, offering a wide perspective over Faial's rural landscape.
Access is via an unpaved road, and it can also be reached on foot by a path that starts near the Rural Tourism Houses at the beginning of Canada.
Built before 1957, the mill originally served to grind cereals, harnessing the predominant wind force on the island. It belonged to Mr. Luís Andrade and is now maintained by his nephew “Mestre Francisco”.
Although never officially marked on the IGC cartographic maps of 1969 and 1999, it has maintained its fundamental characteristics over the years: a stone and mortar pedestal and a sail system that transitioned from triangular cloths to wooden blades, adapting to local needs.
The mill is located next to a geodesic mark, in a setting that combines the green of the fields with the distant blue of the Atlantic Ocean. The rural surroundings invite a peaceful pause and observing the movement of clouds over the hills.
Although deactivated, the mill maintains its robust appearance, with its exposed stone pedestal standing out on the horizon and offering a good subject for photographs that capture the traditional essence of Faial.
