Located in Feteira, a village in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Carmina Galeria is situated in a quieter area of Terceira Island. This area, with its serene atmosphere, offers a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city center, allowing for a calmer visit dedicated to art, in a setting that reflects the essence of the Azorean peripheral communities.
Carmina Galeria, officially named Carmina, Dimas Simas Lopes Contemporary Art Gallery, was established in 2004 as an important hub for contemporary art on Terceira Island. Over the years, it has established itself as a space for experimentation and a meeting point for various forms of artistic and cultural expression. Since October 2020, the gallery has been integrated into the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, following its founder's donation. This space maintains its purpose of being a reference center for the dissemination, reflection, and appreciation of art in its various forms.
Inside Carmina Galeria, visitors can appreciate a selection of works, including pieces by renowned artists such as Júlio Pomar and António Dacosta. In addition to its collection, the gallery regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, offering new perspectives on contemporary art. Carmina Galeria also stands out for hosting, since 2023, the analog photography club of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, known as Lux Fecit. This club is dedicated to preserving and disseminating the processes of analog photography, from the use of various equipment to darkroom developing and enlarging techniques, valuing this cultural heritage, both in its intangible aspect and in the preservation of the equipment itself.
