Situated in the picturesque locality of Ervedosa do Douro, in the heart of the São João da Pesqueira municipality, this Chapel is located on elevated ground, embedded in the stunning landscape of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro. From there, a wide view opens up over the slopes densely populated by terraces and estates, offering a characteristic scene of the demarcated region and inviting a moment of contemplation.

Architecture and Style

The Chapel displays the characteristics of religious architecture that mark many constructions in the region, with a style that harks back to the Baroque period. Its structure, of a simple longitudinal plan, is built with granite masonry, generally plastered and painted in light colours, contrasting with the apparent stonework elements that define the openings and corners. Inside, an atmosphere of reverence is created by its wooden ceiling, sometimes designed as a false vault, and by the flooring that bears witness to centuries of history.
