Parque da Algodeia is located in the urban area of Algodeia, integrated into the city of Setúbal. Its location facilitates access for residents and visitors, serving as a meeting and resting point within the urban fabric. It is situated in an area that allows for a pause from the urban environment, offering an inviting green space.
This park was planned with a dual functionality. In addition to being a leisure area, it plays an important role in water management in the Várzea de Setúbal. It is the first phase of a system designed for stormwater retention, thus contributing to flood control in the city. This conception demonstrates a balance between the need for urban green spaces and environmental engineering solutions.
With an area of approximately three hectares, Parque da Algodeia offers ample space for enjoying nature and recreation. Its main lake, which includes a small island, creates a habitat for observing various species of aquatic birds, providing a point of interest for nature lovers. A botanical highlight is the presence of an exemplar of the clone of Duarte de Armas' Ash Tree, a tree with symbolic value offered to Setúbal by the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta.
Designed for the well-being of all visitors, the park features equipment that promotes physical activity and social interaction. Here you can find an area with geriatric exercise equipment, ideal for seniors to stay active. For children, there is a playground that invites play and fun. These infrastructures contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment.
